Commercial Bonds
A commercial bond is a three-party agreement. It can help a business show a city, a project owner, or another obligee that a licensing, permit, or contract duty will be performed. If the business does not meet that duty, the surety may pay the obligee according to the bond, and the business may have to repay the surety. That is different from insurance, which is designed to protect the policyholder. Salazar Torres & Associates can help you describe the obligation so the right bond type can be reviewed.
- May support license, permit, or contract obligations required by an obligee.
- Underwritten on the business’s ability to perform, not as a typical liability policy.
- Does not replace general liability or workers’ compensation insurance.

Request a commercial bonds conversation
ZIP Code starts the conversation. Bond paperwork is reviewed later with an advisor.

How commercial bonds are usually discussed
A bond is written for the benefit of the obligee. It is not a policy that pays the contractor’s own losses the way insurance typically would.
- Bond type
Tell an advisor which obligee asked for the bond and whether it is for a license, a permit, or a contract. The form of bond is defined by that request.
- Penal sum
The amount usually comes from the obligee, not from this website. We do not invent bond amounts here.
- Credit and indemnity
Surety underwriting may review personal and business credit later. Owners should expect indemnity discussions that are different from buying insurance.
- Not insurance
If a claim is paid, the business may have to reimburse the surety. A bond does not transfer risk the same way a liability policy does.
- Timing
If a deadline is close, call the agency. A website request does not issue, file, or guarantee a bond.
Availability, limits, exclusions, and conditions depend on the insurance company, the policy, and the state. Salazar Torres & Associates is an independent agency and does not issue policies on this website.
