Business Owners Policy

A Business Owners Policy (BOP) is often a practical starting point when a business wants property and liability protection discussed together. Salazar Torres & Associates can help you review whether a BOP may fit your operation. Eligibility depends on the business, the insurance company, and the state.

  • May package frequently requested commercial coverages in one policy, when eligible.
  • Gives an advisor a clear starting point for small and midsize business conversations.
  • Helps you compare a packaged option with separate policies, without promising a result.

What a BOP may help protect

A qualifying BOP may address business property and certain third-party liability claims in one policy. What is included, and what is excluded, is defined by the insurance company and the policy.

  • Business property

Conversations may include the building you occupy, furniture, inventory, or equipment used in the business, subject to the policy.

  • Third-party liability

A BOP may include liability for certain injury or property-damage claims related to qualifying operations.

  • One-policy convenience

When eligible, packaging coverages can simplify billing and certificates. An advisor will still confirm whether separate policies are a better fit.

  • Eligibility and class of business

Insurance companies underwrite BOPs by business type, location, and operations. Some trades or higher-risk activities may need a different approach.

  • What a BOP is not

A BOP is not a substitute for workers’ compensation, commercial auto, professional liability, or a surety bond unless those coverages are added and accepted separately.

Availability, limits, exclusions, and conditions depend on the insurance company, the policy, and the state. Salazar Torres & Associates is an independent agency and does not issue policies on this website.

Who may need this coverage?

A BOP is often discussed with owners of qualifying shops, offices, and service businesses. Not every operation is eligible.

  • Small and midsize businesses that want property and liability reviewed together.

  • Owners who have been asked for a certificate of insurance for a lease or a client contract.

  • Businesses comparing a packaged policy with buying coverages separately.
